Web DAV PC

pdf iconwebdavPC2.5.3.5(PDF, 122.6 KB)
Description: WebDAV is a technology that allows you to drag and drop files and folders from your local computer hard drive to your Resources folder in your TRACS workspace, or in your course or project site(s).
Important Notes about Using WebDAV:
You must have at least one object (i.e., file or folder) in Resources before you set up WebDAV.
Once you open a WebDAV folder on your computer, the connection to the folder remains open until you log off or turn off the computer. To protect your files, if you use WebDAV on a public computer, be sure to log off or turn off the computer when you are done.
Key Concepts:
Setting Up WebDAV in Windows:

[top]

Step 1: Locate the site’s address. The site address is a unique identifier for each worksite.
To find the site address, click [Resources] in the worksite’s menubar. Click [Upload/Download Multiple Resources]. You will find the site’s address under WebDAV access to this site.

A site address will resemble the URL shown below:

http://tracs.txstate.edu/dav/group/cdd1e5fd-0a85-469c-000987-cbcaef8cf7c29

Consider copying and pasting your course or project site address(es) into a document on your computer. That way you can have easy access to them whenever necessary.
Step 2: On the desktop, double-click [My Network Places].
Step 3: In the Network Tasks pane, click [Add a network place].
Step 4: When the Add Network Place Wizard appears, click [Next].
Step 5: Select Choose network location and then click [Next].
Step 6: In the Internet or network address field, enter the site address for your site.
Step 7: Click [Next].

NOTE: If you receive an alert such as “The folder you’ve entered does not appear to be valid”, it could be there are no resources yet in your site. Go to the site and add a file to initialize the Resources folder, and then return to Step 1.

Step 8: When asked for your username and password, enter your Texas State Net ID and password. Click [OK].
Step 9: Enter a name for the project or class resources folder that you are adding. This name will be used for the folder instead of the longer, more complicated siteID. Click [Next].
Step 10: Click [Finish] to complete the set up.
Step 11: A window appears with the site address and a flashlight icon. Move this window to part of your screen and you will see a dialog box that requires your username and password. Enter your username and password and click [OK].
Step 12: The class or project resources folder will appear in Network Places in Windows Explorer as a folder. You can drag the folder to your desktop for easier access.
You may now drag and drop folders between your computer and the folder on your desktop. However, you cannot delete items in the folder by dragging them to the Recycle Bin on your desktop. To delete an item, right-click it and select [Delete].
Step 13: Subsequently, to access your folder, click the folder icon on your desktop.
A dialog box opens asking you to enter your Texas State Net ID and password. Enter the information and click [OK].
NOTE: You may need to move open windows on your screen in order to see the dialog box.
